Introduced in 1915 as a German military pistol, this model was not sold as a commercial item. Unusually simple takedown: by loosening large screw, and lifting a locking stirrup, the slide and receiver are easily separated. This screw must be well tightened or the entire unit may separate dangerously on firing. Later design changes, particularly in the ejection port, were patented by F.L. Selbstlader whose name appears on the pistols. Original models had wood grips, later models were of hard rubber. Some models had no visible trigger bar; these are not named as a different or modified pistol.
