Designed in Belgium, this pistol was first made in 1920 by Heinrich Ortgies & Co. of Efurt, Germany. The firm sold all tooling and parts to Deutsche Werke AG, who continued to make the pistols until the mid 1940s. Original models will have an “HO” monogram on the grips while later models have what appears to be an artistic D. Well made and of excellent appearance, it was characterized by an unusual self-locking grip safety. Many exported to U.S. in the 1920s and 1930s.
