While the PP was designed primarily as a holster arm, the PPK was intended for use as a undercover or hideout weapon for plainclothes officers. Incorporating all the design features of the larger PP, the PPK immediately found favor with German staff officers. The PPK was introduced in 1931 and was discontinued with all Walther production in 1945. Manufacture was later resumed in France to Walther’s same high pre-war standards. Production later resumed by Walther in Ulm, Germany, but importation into the U.S. became illegal in 1968. American made model reintroduced in 1986 by Interarms in .380 caliber only.
